Wilma Smith

Funeral services for Mrs. Wilma Smith, age 92 of Cookeville, were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday February 21 in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Pastor Robert Haynes officiated. Interment followed in the Sand Springs Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday 1 pm until service time. Social distancing and the use of masks were appreciated. Wilma died Wednesday February 17, 2021 at NHC of Cookeville. She was born February 26, 1928 in Putnam County, TN to Willie Hershel and Nannie Mae Finley Nichols. Wilma loved the Lord and loved her family. She was a member of Bangham Heights Baptist Church and a former member of Eastwood Baptist, Caney Fork Baptist, and Millcreek Baptist Churches. Wilma and Hulon were married on July 4th, 1953 and were married a total of 61 years. She was retired from Wilson Sporting Goods. She loved taking care of her husband, children, and grandchildren. She is survived by two sons, Myron Smith (Sandy) of Cookeville and Kevin Smith of Old Lyme, Connecticut; grandson William Smith of Knoxville; granddaughter Marcy Flatt of Cookeville; sister Patricia Ellis Ford of Cookeville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hulon Smith; sisters Evon Kirby, Ruth Moss, Joan Sharp, and brother Troy Nichols. William Smith, Steve Sharp, Tim Sharp, Jonathan Moss, Matthew Moss and Jimmy Murphy served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Patrick Ford, Joel Moss and Stan Sharp.
