Woodrow Jackson, 95, of Cookeville, TN, surrounded by loving family and caregivers, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at his home. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, December 21 at 11 am in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Pharris officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Sand Springs Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends from 4-8 pm Friday, December 20, with Masonic services at 7 pm. Visitation again Saturday, from 9am until service time. Woodrow was born October 20, 1918 in the community of Sandsprings, TN, the fifth child of Joseph and Pearl (Williams) Jackson. He graduated from Monterey High School in 1938. On June 3, 1939 he married the former Edna Miller of Sandsprings, TN. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 37th Infantry Division in the Philippines. During his years of service, he was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Pacific Campaign Medal and a Bronze Star. He was discharged as a T4 Tech Sergeant. After serving in the U.S. Army, Woodrow studied refrigeration and heating & air conditioning at Tennessee Polytechnic Institute. In 1958, with his wife at his side as bookkeeper, he began Jackson Refrigeration Heating &Cooling from the sun room of their home at 115 South Dixie Avenue in Cookeville. Woodrow's strong work ethic and integrity led to a growing business and he asked Ezra Carwile to join the business in 1961; thus the founding of Jackson & Carwile. Woodrow sold his business interest in 1978 to Ezra and wife, Lucille. Their son Gary Carwile continues to run the business which is now Carwile Mechanical. Woodrow enjoyed gardening and raising Limousine cattle after retiring with his wife Edna until her passing in 1999. Woodrow will forever be remembered for his passion to share the gospel with others and his devotion to family. He was a charter member and past deacon of Eastwood Baptist Church and a member of Masonic Lodge 266 and Al Menah Shrine Temple and a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason. In addition to his parents, Woodrow was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Miller Jackson, son, Ronald (Woody) Jackson, sisters Myrtle (Bob) Matheney, Euna (Tharon) Taylor and brothers Herschel (ClaraTays) and Clarence(Sarah Padgett) Jackson, brother-in-law Lex (Syble) Miller, sister-in-law Pearl (Elmer) Roberson, sister-in-law, Agnes Jackson Woodrow is survived by son Harold (Willene) Jackson, daughter-in-law Carolyn Jackson, sisters Pruna (Roscoe) Ihde and Ada (Raymond) Schippers of California and Estellene (Trellis) Fox of Tennessee, brothers Casto Jackson and Oliver (Helen) Jackson of California, and brother-in-law Wash (Charlene) Miller. He is survived by 6 grandchildren, Jeffrey (Penny) Jackson, Renee (Steve) Huddleston, Mark Jackson, Kim (Steve) Van De Voorde, Katrina (Mike) Bowman, Marlania (Jr.) Jones; 12 great grandchildren, Brittany Sparks, Lauren (Landon) Rice, Sarah Beth Van De Voorde, Cody, Rachel and Alison Huddleston, Haley and Hayden Jackson, Joshua and Caleb Rice, Sarah (Jodonn) Jared, Olivia Jones, and 2 great-great grandchildren; Layna Rice and Bryleigh Jared, and a special nephew, Gary Roberson and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and special caregivers Eulene Holmes, Judy Hoskins, Lori Padgett, Retha Collette and special neighbors Jerry and Betty Hicks and Dr. Sully Smith.
