Ann Nothnagle

DYER CHAPEL-Ann Marie Nothnagle, a cherished member of the Cookeville, Tennessee community, passed away suddenly on Saturday March 1, 2025, at her residence. Born on August 16, 1945, in Rochester, New York, Ann dedicated her life to helping others and raising a family.

With a career marked by compassion and commitment, Ann was a religious education coordinator for many years in Livonia, NY. In addition, Ann served as a facilitator with Al-Anon support groups and led Griefshare support groups alongside her husband, Bill Nothnagle, for those coping with loss. She was a substance abuse counselor and rehabilitator at Plateau Mental Health Center. Her influence was felt deeply within her community, as she provided an empathetic ear and a guiding hand to countless individuals in need. Ann's educational journey culminated in her later years when she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Counseling from SUNY Empire State University, a testament to her determination and dedication to empowering others.

Ann and Bill moved to Cookeville in 1997 from Livonia, NY, where they changed roles: Ann went to work, and Bill took care of the house. A lifelong and devout Catholic, Ann was an active member of St. Andrews in Sparta and later became a cherished member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Cookeville, where she was a lecter and helped coordinate the Christmas pageant at church. Ann’s faith was the cornerstone of her life, shaping her values of kindness, generosity, and artistic expression.

Described by many as caring, compassionate, and patient, Ann was known for her creativity-whether it be through her artistic endeavors or her crafty spirit. She was a devoted wife and mother, holding dear the memories she created with her family.

Avid travelers, Ann and Bill enjoyed traveling, and together they visited many states, countries, and parts of 3 continents. She enjoyed riding on motorcycles with her husband, and earned a private pilot’s license that allowed her to fly small aircraft solo.

Ann is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Bill Nothnagle, whom she married on August 14, 1965, and their two sons, Brian Nothnagle and Aaron Nothnagle (Trevor Colas), along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends near and far, and church members. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Agnes Maloney Fisher, her son, Curt Nothnagle, and her siblings, Mary Louise Derleth, A. Patricia Goodlein, George, and John Fisher.

A visitation for Ann will be held on Saturday March 8 from 9 - 11 a.m. followed by a Mass starting at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, located at 421 North Washington Avenue, Cookeville, TN 38501.

Ann Nothnagle’s legacy of generosity, love, and devotion to the well-being of others will forever be etched in the hearts of those she touched. She leaves behind a profound impact that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
