COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Anna Flatt, a cherished daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday December 14, 2025, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Born on May 28, 1943, in Cookeville, TN, Anna's vibrant life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, dedication, and an indomitable spirit.

For many years, Anna worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), embodying her compassionate and caring nature. Her profession was not just a job; it was a calling that allowed her to touch the lives of many. With her spunky and determined personality, Anna was always ready to lend a helping hand, offering kindness to both her patients and her loved ones. She was passionate about being a caretaker, not only to her family but also to her beloved animals, demonstrating an unwavering love and commitment to those around her.

Anna had a big personality that filled every room with warmth and laughter. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was watching her favorite sports-especially football and basketball-or curling up with a good book. Her zest for life was infectious, and she inspired those who knew her to embrace the world with enthusiasm.

Her proudest accomplishments were her family, which she adored fiercely. Anna is survived by her daughter, Sheila Hines and her husband, James H. Hines; her grandchildren, Makala Baker and her husband, Adam, and Zelda Strong; and her dear niece, Emily Sliger. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Teddy B., who was a constant companion by her side.

Anna is preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy J. Sliger and Mary Lee Ford Sliger; her maternal grandparents, Charlie and Anna Jernigan Ford; her paternal grandparents, Jim and Lizzie Sliger; as well as her daughter, Sherry Kay Ballard Hooten, her son, James Chadwick "Chad" Flatt, and her brother, Jimmy Franklin "Frank" Sliger. She was also preceded in death by the fathers of her children, James Howard Flatt and Roy Kenneth Ballard.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 11:00 am in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Curry's Chapel Cemetery in Jackson County.

Her family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and again Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
