DYER CHAPEL-Anna Jo Mathis, age 98 of Cookeville, died on Thursday, April 16th, 2026 at the Lifecare Center of Sparta where she had been a resident for 3 years. Jo was born December 11, 1927 in Putnam County, TN.
She is survived by daughters, Mary (Bill) Clemons of Cookeville, and Wanda (Debra Carroll) Mathis of Alcoa, TN; grandson, Aaron O'Neil Sollman; great grandchild, Anissa Belle Sollman; sister, Ruth Morris; nieces and nephews, Ron & Shelly Morris Franklin, Dan Ealey, Gary Ealey, Tom Morris, Anna Ealey Gallagher, Liz Coffman, Edith Ealey, Christy Cook, Bo Cook & Tracey Lane; and Jo's dear friend and faithful caregiver, Allene Peach
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Luther Mathis, Jr.; her parents, Miley White Ealey & Millard Patton Ealey; her great grand daughter Alexandria Sollman; brothers, Austin (Patty) Ealey, Rufus D. (Joyce) Ealey & William (Katherine) Ealey; her nephew Mike Ealey, her niece Melissa Young; and her beloved little dog, Anchor.
Jo was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Cookeville. In younger years, she was active with the Capshaw PTA and lead a Brownie Scout troop. For a short time, Jo & Luther served as foster parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Baptist Children's Home, PO Box 2206, Brentwood, TN 37024 or the Upper Cumberland Child Advocacy Center, 750 E. Spring St., Suite B, Cookeville, TN 38501.
A graveside service and interment will be held Monday, April 20, 2026 at 11 am in the Cookeville City Cemetery. Bro. Bill Stone will officiate.
