Annie Louise Crenshaw Byrd, a nurturing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, closed her eyes to this world for the last time and entered into rest on the 16th of April, 2024, in Cookeville, Tennessee.
On December 30, 1930, in the small town of Frisco City, Alabama, Annie's life journey was one marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and the simple pleasures of life.
She carried the values instilled by her mother, Irene Greene Broughton Crenshaw, throughout her entire life. Annie served 20 years as a Security Officer in the public school system in Patterson, NJ.
Annie was married to the late William Byrd Sr. for 30 years in which time they had 6 children. Together, they were a lighthouse of stability and affection for their children, William (Suzette) Byrd Jr of Cookeville and Darryl Quinton (Helena) Byrd of Columbia, SC; daughters, Alecia Yvonne Byrd (Gregory Sr.) Stubbs of Cookeville, Letitia Lynn (James) Bandy of Murfreesboro, and Brenda Henry of Cookeville. Annie also found joy in the relationships with her brother, Robert Henry Crenshaw, and her late sister, Laura Crenshaw, and welcomed the addition of each new leaf on her family tree, which included 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Annie gracefully navigated the sorrow of the passing of her second oldest daughter, Wanda Miller, and her siblings, Laura Jean Crenshaw, John Clinton Crenshaw, RD Crenshaw, Jr, and Alexander Crenshaw, along with the dearly departed grandchildren Darryl Quinton Byrd Jr, Lethanial Micah Byrd, and LeAndra Miller, carrying their memories in her heart.
Annie was a faithful, dedicated witness of Jehovah for 38 years. Her spiritual life was interwoven with her community, providing a hope, strength and solace to those she met in her ministry.
Amongst her many talents, Annie was also an exceptional seamstress who created not just garments but threads of memories for her loved ones. Her hands, always busy with the soil or the needle, were the same that tenderly held and uplifted her family. Annie’s garden was not just a hobby, but a reflection of her soul-bright, beautiful, and tended with patience.
