Barbara Dean Buckner

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Barbara Dean Buckner, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Friday July 10, 2026, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center at the age of 85. Born on May 12, 1941, Barbara touched many lives, leaving a legacy of love and devotion that will be deeply missed.

Barbara Dean's family was the center of her life, an abiding source of pride and joy. As a loving mother and grandmother, Barbara was devoted, always offering her unwavering support and affection. She was especially committed to her grandchildren, a constant presence and source of support and encouragement at every milestone, big or small. Together they formed a very special mutual admiration society.

A devoted member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church, Barbara held her church family close to her heart. Her faith was ever-present – as she pursued comfort in the face of difficulties, as she extended gratitude for all her blessings, and as she regularly brought warmth and kindness to all those around her. She retired from the Putnam County School System following many years of service as a cafeteria manager and teachers’ aide. Barbara Dean enjoyed watching Hallmark movies and spending time with her many friends at the Cookeville Senior Center, who will miss her smile and encouragement greatly, along with the competitive spirit she brought to their volleyball and card games.

She is survived by her sons, Randy (Wendy) Buckner and Rex (Angela) Buckner; her cherished grandchildren, Brendan, Ellie (Kyle Fuhrer), Reed, Liza, and Elizabeth; great grandson Forrest; and her nephews, Leonard and Lester Farley. Barbara leaves behind an extended chosen family, including Wanda Belew, Julianne Buckner, Beth Gaw, Joyce Hudson, Cindy Linn, Jim and Judy Madewell, Ann Netherton, and Donna Poston, with whom she shared meaningful stages of her life and special places in her heart.

Barbara Dean is preceded in death by her parents, Cludie and Alline Horn Farley; beloved husband Hubert Buckner of 58 years, her son Rodney Buckner, and her brother David Farley and sister in-law, Barbara Farley; nephew James Farley, and dear friend CW Belew.

Those who knew Barbara Dean Buckner will hold her memory in their hearts, grateful for the love, wisdom, and warmth she so freely shared. Her spirit will continue to inspire all who were privileged to know her.
