Barry Atnip

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Donald Barry Atnip, age 72 of Nashville TN, passed away at his home on Monday May 5, 2025.

Barry was born May 28, 1952 in Livingston TN and grew up as one of five children. He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Eric Atnip and Mable (Jean) Atnip. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Jenny, stepson Renné Alejandro Ruiz (Haniel Beas Ruiz), step-grandson Mateo’ Ruiz Beas, siblings Deborah Vines, Dr. Alan Atnip, Wayne Atnip and Angie (Mike) Wade, and nieces, nephews and cousins.

After graduating from Livingston Academy, he then graduated from Tenn. Tech. University in 1974 in Biology and Chemistry. He worked with the TN Dept. of Environment and Conservation as a field office manager in the Division of Solid Waste Management. He loved his job and retired after 34 years with the State. While working, he made many friends with whom he remained close after retirement.

Barry loved his wife, family and his many friends, and he was a ‘people’ person as well as a sports enthusiast. He was a real blessing to all and was sincerely interested in the lives of everyone he met. He especially loved helping others. He and his wife lived in Cookeville TN, Panama City FL and Nashville TN. He and Jenny enjoyed traveling. Regardless of where he was, he often engaged people in conversation frequently discovering they had mutual friends. Barry was always interested in his nieces’ and nephews’ sports activities and their educational and professional pursuits.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life service starting at 12 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home, 59 N Jefferson Ave, Cookeville TN 38501.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Alive Hospice, 1710 Patterson St., Nashville TN 37203.
