Ben Earl Moss, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Cookeville, TN, on August 1, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on March 5, 1938, in Jackson County, TN, Ben's life was a testament to the enduring power of love, hard work, and dedication to family.
Ben's early years in Jackson County were filled with the joys of rural life and the strong bonds of community. After graduating from Jackson County High School in 1956, he furthered his education by attending Tennessee Technological University (TTU), where he laid the foundation for a future of professional achievement and personal growth.
In 1959, Ben married the love of his life, Carol, and together they built a family that would be his pride and joy. Their union was blessed with three children: son Steve Moss and his wife Melissa, and daughters Shari Moss and Melissa and her husband Bowdin Smith. Ben's family includes a cherished brother, Wayne Moss and his wife Charlene, as well as a host of adoring grandchildren: Drew Street and his wife Asia, Mary Smith, Audrey Adcock, Ben Smith, and Meridith Moss. His role as a grandfather was further sweetened by the arrival of three great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter, who all brought immense joy to his later years.
Ben's professional life was marked by a remarkable 32-year tenure with UPS, from which he retired in 1999. His dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to his colleagues and the many friendships he cultivated throughout his career.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Ben was an avid golfer, finding both solace and excitement on the greens. His love for the game was only eclipsed by his love for his family, with whom he shared countless cherished moments. Camping trips with Carol and the children created memories that would last a lifetime, and these experiences instilled a deep appreciation for the great outdoors in all who joined him.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Comer Moss and Wilma Osgatharp Moss, his in-laws Ed and Audrey Cannon, and his grandson Jason Street. Despite these losses, Ben's legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for his loved ones remains a beacon of light for all who knew him.
As we bid farewell to Ben Earl Moss, we celebrate a life well-lived-a life filled with laughter, love, and an unshakeable commitment to family. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched, and his example will continue to inspire us all. Ben's departure leaves a void in our lives, but we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will forever be a part of the fabric of our family
