Bernes Malcolm Johnson, 93, of Somerville, Tennessee and formerly of Baxter, Tennessee passed into the arms of his Lord on December 13, 2022. He was born August 16, 1929 in Baxter, Tennessee to the late Thomas "Tomie" and Ida Johnson. Bernes was married to his late, loving wife of 65 and a half years, Anna Frances Johnson.
Bernes is survived by his children: Robert (wife, Tricia Marie) Johnson, Thomas (wife, Debbie) Johnson, and Patricia (husband, Van) Gilbert. His grandchildren: Jacob Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Kensey Johnson, Kelly Johnson, Deanna Keierleber, Laura Smith, Katie Current, Emily Nason, and Robert Stice. Also, his great-grandchildren: Moses Keierleber, Harper Lake Keierleber, Remington Current, Kaius Current, Malcolm Johnson, and Ayla Johnson. He is also survived by his devoted caregiver, Darnell Jarrett.
Bernes was a veteran of the United States Airforce. After military service, he spent much of his professional career working for Grace Chemical and Kimberly-Clark Corporation. Bernes was a faithful member of Somerville Church of Christ and previously of Gragg Ave. Church of Christ in Memphis, Tennessee. His retirement was full of service to his local church, traveling, enjoying his hobby farm in Somerville, and lavishly loving his friends and family.
Services will be held at the Somerville Church of Christ on Saturday, December 17th with visitation from 12pm – 2pm and funeral service to follow at 2pm. A second service will be held at the Baxter Church of Christ on Sunday, December 18th with visitation 12pm -2pm and funeral service at 2pm. Interment will be at Smellage Cemetery immediately following the service on Sunday afternoon.
