COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Bessie Mae Bumbalough, a beloved soul, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born on February 24, 1951, in White County, TN, Bessie lived a life filled with compassion, talent, and devotion to her family and community.

She at the Shirt Factory, where she worked diligently, but her true calling emerged through her heartfelt dedication as a caregiver for many individuals over several years. Bessie's friendly nature and good-hearted spirit touched the lives of all she encountered. She was known for her ability to brighten any room with her warmth and genuine smile.

A gifted musician and songwriter, Bessie found great joy in playing both the piano and guitar. Her love for music was not just a hobby; it was an integral part of who she was, sharing her talents and melodies with those around her and with her church family.

Among her proudest accomplishments was her cherished connection with her church family at The Remnant Ministries in Algood, TN. This community embraced her spirit and provided a nurturing space that she loved dearly. Bessie often spoke of the joy and support she found within her church, creating bonds that would last a lifetime.

Bessie is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann (Johnny) Dodson of Sparta; her cherished grandchildren, John Ross Dodson, Natasha Ann Dodson, and Phillip Timothy Dodson; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Bentley, Abby, Shelby, Rusty, and Aliyah Dodson, along with Alex Goldsmith. Each of them carries within them a piece of Bessie’s vibrant spirit, reflecting her kindness and love in their own lives. She is also survived by her former husband, Horace "Doc" Matthews, who remains part of her life story.

She joins her beloved parents, Riley Monroe and Pearlie Lou Randolph Bumbalough, along with her husbands, Eddie Dean Ayers and James Joe Collins, Jr., in eternal rest. Their spirits will undoubtedly welcome her with open arms, as they have always held a special place in her heart.

A graveside service and inurnment will be held at Antioch Cemetery in Elkmont, Alabama at a later date.
