BAXTER CHAPEL-Betty Maddux Jared Medley, affectionately known as Betty to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on July 5, 1934, in Baxter, Tennessee, Betty was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. Her final days were spent surrounded by the love of her family in Cookeville, Tennessee.
Betty's life was one of unwavering dedication to her family and community. She was the cherished daughter of the late Ridley Fain and Maud Mae Marcum Maddux. Her journey through life was shared with her beloved husbands, the late Frank Jared and Ralph Medley, who both preceded her in death. Betty was the loving sister to Mary Ann Medlock and her husband Vanas of Cookeville, and she was preceded in death by her siblings, Ruby Shores, Juanita Dyal, Bert Lowe, and Robert Floyd Maddux.
Betty's legacy continues through her devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Rodger LaFever, Rita and Richard Lafever, Cindy Dyal and Jack Hayes, all of Baxter. Her nieces, nephews, and extended family will fondly remember her nurturing spirit and the wisdom she imparted.
Betty attended Baxter Seminary, where her love for learning and community was evident. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a long-standing member of the Jefferson Ave Church of Christ, where she formed many lasting friendships and served her community with grace and humility.
Throughout her career, Betty was a valued employee at Acme Boot, McCord's, and Cookeville Shirt Factory. Her work ethic and dedication to her roles were admired by her colleagues and served as an example to those who worked alongside her.
Beyond her professional life, Betty had a passion for the simple pleasures in life. She was an exceptional embroiderer, a skill she used to create beautiful pieces for her family and friends. Her culinary skills were unmatched, and she took great joy in cooking for her loved ones. Betty's nurturing nature extended to her pets, and she cherished the time spent caring for her cats. She found peace in watching redbirds and hummingbirds dance around her garden, which was always abloom with vibrant flowers.
Betty was a person of immense kindness and generosity. She had a unique ability to put others before herself, offering support and love without hesitation. Her caring and loving personality touched the lives of many, and her influence will be felt for generations to come.
