COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Betty Maxine Pierce, affectionately known as Maxine, passed away peacefully at her residence in Cookeville on Thursday July 30, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on July 29, 1930, she lived a life devoted to her family and faith.
Maxine was a dedicated homemaker whose warmth and compassion touched all who knew her. She was a caregiver to her family and warmly served others selflessly.
Her Christian faith was the center of her life. Maxine was a godly woman, whose life was a testament to her unwavering faith and dedication to the Lord. She was a faithful member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church. Using her abilities as a talented quilter, she quilted with her church family as a member of the Sew Sew Sisters, creating beautiful works of art that reflected her love and care. Her quilts were pieced together with devotion and meticulous attention to detail.
Education was important to Maxine and her late husband, William Pierce. In a remarkable display of determination and family unity, they returned to school to obtain their GEDs at the same time their sons were pursuing their college degrees. This achievement highlighted the values of perseverance and support that she instilled in her family.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Joseph Garrett and Della Litton Garrett; her devoted husband, William Pierce; her cherished son, Stephen Pierce; and her dear grandson, Adam Pierce.
Maxine leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her sons, Gary Pierce (Faithe), Alan Pierce (Lori), Rob Pierce (Christine), and Richard Pierce (Stacy); her grandchildren, Angela Caueffield (Adam Johnson), Alexis Ozden (Kerim), Allison Caueffield, Ashley Schuckman (David), Tyler Pierce (Kristin), Cameron Pierce (Elena), Landon Pierce (Victoria), Justin Pierce, Brian Pierce (Jenna), Courtney Pierce (Brandon Anderson), David Pierce (Anna), Alenis Staggs (Jeremiah), Stacy Searles, and Lindy Skiles; and 17 great-grandchildren, each of whom was blessed by her kindness and love.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, August 2, from 1 to 3 p.m at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home (59 N Jefferson Ave.) followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Monday August 3 at 10 a.m. at the Fellowship United Baptist Church Cemetery in Fentress County.
