COOKEVILLE-“The earth laughs in flowers.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Mrs. Bobbie Nell Gunnels Wyatt, who bloomed with selflessness and creativity and love, passed away peacefully on January 20th, 2024, in Chattanooga, TN, at the age of 79. Born on August 3rd, 1944, in Albany, KY, Bobbie was a faith-filled, southern lady whose life was a testament to her unwavering spirit and enduring love for those around her.

A proud graduate of Cookeville Central High School, Class of 1962, Bobbie's journey was one marked by dedication and hard work. She was the beloved owner and operator of Gunnels Florist, a cherished local business that has stood as a pillar of the Cookeville community. Bobbie took great pride in the flower shop's legacy, which was showcased at the celebration of its recent 70th anniversary held on September 10th, 2023, which she described as "one of the best days of my life", a day shared with so many friends, customers and family.

Bobbie's commitment to her faith and community was evident through her long-standing involvement with the Jefferson Ave Church of Christ. Known as an exemplary Christian lady, she lived her beliefs through action, always working and doing for others. In addition to preparing countless floral arrangements, her hands crafted an infinite number of pies for friends and neighbors, and her heart was ever open to those in need.

“So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow." 1 Corinthians 3:7

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Gunnels and Ethel Stover Gunnels, and her first husband, Gerald "Pee Wee" Reels. Bobbie's love story continued with her second husband of 19 years, Gary Wyatt, who survives her. She was a "perfect" mother to her daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary and David Andrews, and son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Lisa Reels. Her legacy further lives on through her adoring grandchildren, Jessica and her husband, Jordan Burgess, and Emma Andrews, as well as her treasured great-grandchildren, Lennox, Finn, and Karsyn Burgess. Bobbie's life was enriched by the company of many dear friends, including her lifelong friend, Joyce Raney.

Her interests outside of work and family were diverse and active. Whether it was a day spent golfing, an exciting game of bowling, or the thrill of water skiing, Bobbie embraced life with enthusiasm and vigor. These activities were more than hobbies; they were extensions of her generous spirit, as she often used them as opportunities to connect with and care for others.

Described by those who knew her as a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, creative, and selfless, Bobbie's presence was a gift to all who crossed her path. Bobbie's success, measured by the love she shared and the lives she touched, was truly immeasurable. “Happiness held is the seed; Happiness shared is the flower.”- John Harrigan

Bobbie Nell Gunnels Wyatt's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved her. Yet, the beauty of her spirit, like the flowers she so tenderly cultivated, will continue to bloom in the memories and actions of her family, friends, and the countless lives she enriched. Her story does not end with her passing but lives on in the love she gave, the work she did, and the community she tirelessly supported. May we all strive to embody the virtues that Bobbie so effortlessly displayed throughout her remarkable life.
