Mrs. Bobbie, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away on June 1, 2025, at Bailey Manor in Cookeville, Tennessee. She was born on March 20, 1931, in Putnam County, TN, to Monroe and Mary Frances Eller Yates. Bobbie was 94 years old at the time of her passing, having lived a life filled with warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for those around her.
A 1950 graduate of Putnam County Senior High School, Bobbie exemplified a servant-minded spirit throughout her life, consistently putting others first and seeing the best in everyone. Her positive nature endeared her to many and she became known for her extraordinary ability to uplift those around her. A devoted homemaker, Bobbie also worked at Oster and the Cookeville Shirt Factory, but it was in her home and within her family that she truly shined.
Bobbie had a passion for cooking, sewing, and crocheting, always finding joy in nurturing those she loved. She adored being on the go, frequently exploring new places and sharing adventures with family and friends. Her love for travel was matched only by her affection for family gatherings, where her delicious meals and comforting presence could always be felt and appreciated.
Over her 70 years of marriage, Bobbie was a devoted partner to her husband, Jerry Sliger. Together, they cultivated a family rooted in love and support. She is survived by her husband, Jerry; her daughter, Dianne (Lynn) Wallace; and her sons, Mike (Teresa) Sliger and Danny (Mary Beth) Sliger. Bobbie was a proud grandmother to her eight grandchildren: Jeremy (Dana) Wallace, David (Kelly) Wallace, Elizabeth (Isaiah) Lewis, James (Candace) Wallace, Phillip Sliger, Andrew (Taylor) Sliger, Danielle Sliger, and Allyson (Jonathan) Farris. Her legacy of love continues with all her seven great grandchildren, who carry forward her values and lessons in their own lives. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom felt the warmth of her nurturing spirit.
Bobbie's commitment to her church family at Stevens Street Baptist Church spanned an impressive 65 years. Her contributions to the Friendship Sunday School Class, various committees, and her unwavering support in coordinating meals for bereaved families epitomized her dedication to service and compassion within her community. It was here that many of her closest friendships were forged, deepening her connections and enriching her life.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Mary Frances Eller Yates; her sister, Margaret Carter; and her brothers, Bill Yates and Dow Yates.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
