Brenda Gaona

DYER CHAPEL-Brenda Gaona, 64 of Sparta, TN, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Cookville Regional Medical Center. Born on October 17, 1961, in Sparta, Tennessee, Brenda was the daughter of the late William Walter Ward and Erbie Edith Nash Ward.

A  graduate of White County High School, Brenda dedicated much of her life to creating a warm and nurturing home. She was known for her passion for making knick knacks, a pastime that brought joy both to herself and to those fortunate enough to receive her thoughtful creations. Brenda found deep comfort and inspiration in reading the Bible and going to church. When the opportunity arose, she delighted in fishing, embracing the tranquility and patience the activity offered.

She is survived by her son, Sawyer Gaona of Lyles, Tennessee, who carries forward her loving spirit. Her former husband, Ortemio Gaona of Cookeville, Tennessee, remembers her as a person of great kindness and strength. Brenda also leaves behind her brothers, Wesley (Doris) Ward of Cookeville, Paul Poss of Sparta, Frito Ward of Sparta, and James Golden of Cookeville, and her sister, Thelma Jean Hollingsworth of Sparta. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Walter Pedro Sisco and Maylee Majka, as well as a host of nieces and nephews who will always remember her fondly.

Brenda was preceded in death not only by her parents, but also by her brother, Walter Jackie Ward.

No services are planned.

Her presence will be deeply missed, but her warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her. Brenda Gaona’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and devotion to family, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to share in her journey.
