Burley Cannon

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Burley Cannon, age 79, was born November 18, 1946 in Putnam County, Tennessee and passed away on Saturday July 25, 2026 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He spent his working years in education as a principal, assistant principal, and teacher in Georgia and Putnam County.

He graduated from Putnam County Senior High School in 1964. From there, he was proud to have gone on to be the first in his family to attend college at Tennessee Tech University where he graduated in three years and went on to complete both his Masters and Education Specialist degrees. He was equally as proud to have retired with 32 years of education service at the age of 52.

He was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church in Cookeville. He loved talking about his grandchildren and tending to the handful of chickens he frequently kept and talking to his dog. He enjoyed all sports and was particularly fond of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who he had followed since he was a young boy.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wilma Moore Cannon; his two sons Jason (Lisa) Cannon of Los Angeles, CA; and Joey (Patience) Cannon of Cookeville; his four grandchildren, Sean and Linh Cannon of Los Angeles and Daye and Ansley Cannon of Cookeville; and one sister, Linda Loftis of Cookeville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carson and Mildred Cannon, one brother, Ricky Cannon, an infant sister, and brother in law Mike Lofts.

Funeral services will be held Thursday July 30, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in the Cookeville chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Pastor Mark Gaw will officiate.

His family will receive friends Wednesday July 29, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and again Thursday from 11:00 am until time of service at the Cookeville Chapel.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Justin Loftis, Jonathan Loftis, sons, Jason Cannon and Joey Cannon, and grandsons, Sean Cannon and Daye Cannon.
