BRO. CARL SCARLETT
Carl Lee Scarlett, was a light of faith and friendliness in the community he so dearly loved. Born on December 31, 1942, in Baxter, Tennessee, Carl embarked on a life marked by devotion to service and the upliftment of others. His journey on this earth came to a peaceful conclusion on July 4, 2024, in Cookeville, Tennessee, leaving behind a legacy of love, leadership, and unwavering commitment to his faith.
Carl was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Fred and Jewell Morphew Scarlett, and his first wife, M. Pauline “Gigi” Scarlett; and by a by a special bonus daughter, Christal Rodgers. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his wife, Cheryl Garrison Rodgers Scarlett, and his loving children, Lisa Ozment and her husband David, Steve Scarlett, and Jeff Scarlett. Carl's legacy extends through his proud lineage of grandchildren: Daniel Arrowood, Candace May, Brandon Ozment, Hunter Ozment, Blake Ozment, Aiden Ozment, Cody Scarlett, Cheyanne Scarlett, Zack Scarlett and Ashlynn Scarlett. The joy of his life was further multiplied by his great-grandchildren, Addison, Bella, Justin, Ava, Hadley, and Ivy. Carl also embraced a bonus family of children and grandchildren, including Tim and Melody Peace, Cindy and Jim Queen, and Chuck and Amy Rodgers, along with their children Colin Peace, Nathaniel Peace, Celeste Peace, and Titus and Madison Rodgers.
Carl was a 1961 graduate of Upperman High School and supported his alma mater throughout his life. He was an avid fan of the Bees and enjoyed watching and commenting on the UHS ball games and shows live-streamed on the Upper Cumberland Reporter.
Carl's vocation as a pastor was not merely a job but the essence of his existence. His spiritual leadership was felt in Wilhite Baptist Church in Cookeville, Southside Baptist in Lebanon, and Miracle Baptist in Lavergne, Tennessee, where he served faithfully for 32 years. His influence reached beyond the pulpit as he took on the role of President of the Tennessee Pastors Association, guiding fellow pastors with wisdom and humility. Even in semi-retirement, Carl continued to serve the community as a part-time worker for Woodfin Funeral Home in Smyrna, Tennessee, and filled in various capacities for countless churches. His proud Southern Baptist faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he dedicated himself to building the Lord's kingdom, becoming a pastor to pastors and serving others with boundless energy and compassion. He has been a member of Stevens Street Baptist Church since 2006.
Carl's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of love, leadership, and unwavering faith. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary man, we are comforted by the knowledge that his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched. His legacy of kindness, service, and devotion to his faith will continue to inspire generations to come. Carl's life was a blessing to many, and his memory will be treasured forever.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 7, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Nathan Hale and Dr. Jimmy Arms will officiate. His family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Private family interment will be held Monday, July 8th at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
