COOKEVILLE-Carmen Valdes-Izquierdo, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026, at Signature Healthcare of Putnam County. Born on July 16, 1936, in Cuba, Carmen’s journey from her homeland to the warm embrace of south Florida in the 1960s marked the beginning of a life defined by love, dedication, and resilience.
Known for her heartfelt devotion to family and her unwavering Christian faith, Carmen was a loving, caring, and hardworking woman who touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She built a life centered around providing for her family, cherishing her role as a seamstress in Miami, and cooking meals infused with love and tradition. Her radiant spirit and warmth made her beloved by all who had the privilege to know her.
Her family was the true treasure of her life. Carmen was a devoted wife to Adrian C. Valdes, who predeceased her, loving mother to her children - her daughter Anna Fernandez and husband Alex, and her son Armando Valdes. She carried the loving memory of her daughter Alina Fernandez, who predeceased her. Carmen also held dear her eight siblings, Manolo, Roger, Fernando, Nelson, Marth, Dulce, Jenny, and Chico and was deeply proud of her grandchildren Adrian, Daniel, and Kristy, who continue to celebrate her life and legacy.
Carmen’s parents, Wenceslao Izquierdo and Ana Maria Fagundo Izquierdo, preceded her in death, leaving behind a daughter whose life was a testament to their love and strength.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Pastor Jose Martinez will officiate. Her family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Her legacy of faith, family, and unwavering care remains a guiding light for those who had the honor of calling her a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Carmen Valdes’s life was a symphony of love and perseverance - a melody that will echo in hearts forever.
Her family wishes to acknowledge and thank the nurses at Signature Healthcare of Putnam County and Gentiva Hospice for the excellent and loving care extended to Carmen.
