Carol Buchanan

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Mrs. Carol Elaine Lewis Buchanan, of Cookeville, TN and formerly of Mt. Carmel, TN, was born May 14th, 1960 in Harlan, KY and grew up in Appalachia, VA. She graduated from Appalachia High School and enjoyed a long career in the financial business. Carol loved to craft in her spare time, try new recipes in the kitchen, and planting flowers around her home. She loved being “Momma Carol” to any and everybody. Carol had a heart of gold, and faith solid as a rock.

Carol passed away on November 20, 2024 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center surrounded by family and friends who prayed with her and loved on her as the angels came to fly her home. For nearly five years, she fought a long hard battle with pancreatic cancer, and received her new heavenly body when the Lord took her home that morning.

Left to cherish her memory, and carry on her “Momma Carol” legacy are her children: daughters, Arminda “Mindy” Carroll (Josh), Natasha Flansburg (Bruce), Ashley Kennedy (Christopher), and son, T.J. Buchanan (Courtney). Three grandchildren, Hayden and Jace Buchanan, and Baby Carroll, who she was so excited to meet in April 2025. She is also survived by her father, Robert Lewis; brother, Boyd Lewis (Patsy); nephew, Brad Lewis (Allison); niece, Cristy Lewis; great-nephews Elijah and Reed Lewis. Carol is also survived by many more cousins who were more like sisters to her, and other beloved family members and friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Timothy “Ed” Buchanan, her mother Mary Alice Lewis, step-mother Joann Lewis, and special aunt, Margaret Lewis.

The family will hold a visitation at Hooper, Huddleston, & Horner in Cookeville on Sunday, November 24, 2024 from 2:00-4:00 PM CST. They will also hold another visitation at Holston View Methodist church in Weber City, VA on Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM EST with a short memorial service immediately following.

The family would like to thank Signature of Putnam County for their love and care for Carol during her rehabilitation stay the past month, as well as, Barbara and Cory of Quality Home Health for their care and compassion for Carol.
