COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Charles Cecil Wilmoth, a beloved fixture of the Cookeville community, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born on April 15, 1948, in Cookeville, Cecil dedicated his life to his family, friends, and career in factory and rental property maintenance, where he was known for his dependable nature and keen ability to fix anything that came his way.
Cecil was not just a neighbor; he was a true friend to all who knew him. With a funny disposition and a warm heart, he brightened the lives of those around him. He was always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone in need; his kindness was felt by many and will be missed dearly. Furthermore, he cherished the moments spent teaching his grandchildren the practical skills that they will carry into their own lives, and he could often be found supporting all the sports teams his grandchildren were a part of.
Cecil attended Dodson Branch Freewill Baptist Church, where he found community and connection, and he delighted in fishing and gardening—pastimes that brought him peace and fulfillment. Whether he was tending to his garden or sharing stories with friends under the warm sun, he left an unforgettable mark on everyone he encountered.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lula Wilmoth; his devoted mother, Dorothy Wilmoth; his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Kyle Brown; and his cherished grandchildren, Alex and Alana Brown, Josh and Suzanne Carr, and Cody and Mason Mayberry, and several great-grandchildren. Cecil is also remembered fondly by his special friends David and Carolyn Mayberry, and Nancy Lemons, who appreciated his generosity and humor.
Cecil was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Wilmoth, and his step-son, Kevin Mayberry. Their memories will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
A funeral service to honor Cecil's life will be held on Wednesday, July 2 at 11 a.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. The family will welcome friends for visitation on Tuesday from 5 - 8 p.m., and again Wednesday from 9 - 11 a.m. Cecil will be laid to rest at Cookeville City Cemetery.
The Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (931)526-6111 Share condolences and memories at www.hhhfunerals.com.
