COOKEVILLE CHAPEL-Clayton John Edney, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, peacefully passed away on January 15, 2025 at Charter Assisted Living in Hermitage, TN.
Born on November 23, 1946, in Dalton, NH, Clayton dedicated 40 years of his life to the paper industry, primarily in services and sales culminating at Asten-Johnson.
Clayton served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 as a Field Artillery Cannoneer achieving the rank of Sergeant E-5. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and a Rifle Marksman Badge.
A man of many passions, Clayton found joy in the great outdoors. His number one passion was deer hunting, followed by fishing and camping. He and his wife, Kathleen, took their grandchildren on many camping outings that they truly enjoyed. An avid Nascar fan, he carried that passion for racing to participating in local stock car racing at Kalamazoo Speedway in Michigan. in his leisure time, he enjoyed yard work, woodworking and taking care of his chickens.
Clayton as known for warmth and kindness, traits that made him a great husband to his loving wife, Kathleen (30 yrs.) and a devoted father to his sons, Clayton Edney III (Amanda) and Curtis Edney (Julie). He, also, embraced his role as a step-father to Kristine Myers and Angela Myers. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Clayton Edney IV, Mercedes Edney, Curtis Edney, Jr. and Breanna Edney. Also, Shaun Myers, Darian Myers, Kaylee Burroughs, James Curtis, Jr., Aaliyah Warren and Kaci and Kortni Town. He was further blessed with great-grandchildren, including Curtis Edney III, Addelynn Melton-Myers, Remmy Goudzward, Legend Platt, Maverick Starr-Curtis and Serenelee Schiavi-Myers.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Clayton J. Edney Sr. and Elizabeth (Wood) Edney; as well as his brother, Chester Edney. Their memories remain a guiding presence in the hearts of those who carry on Clayton's spirit.
Clayton John Edney, Jr. will be profoundly missed, but lovingly remembered for his generosity, dedication to family and enthusiastic approach to life. His contribution to both his family and profession paint the picture of a life well-lived, leaving behind a legacy of love and respect.
