COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Colonel David K. Sachse of Cookeville, Tennessee passed away at Cookeville Regional Medical Center on Friday October 24, 2025 with his wife and long term friends Carolyn and Willard Cummings at his side.

David was born to Karl and Jane Sachse in Wilmington, Delaware on May 24, 1946. He grew up in Wilmington and graduated from high school there. He was an Eagle Scout and active ROTC student. He attended the University of Delaware and graduated with a Bachelor's degree. He joined the Army after graduating and proudly served his country at home and abroad. After returning from Vietnam, David left active duty and joined the reserves. He spent 20+ years in the counter intelligence area, rose to Colonel and commanded a counterintelligence unit in Dallas, Texas for a number of years.

David continued his education after moving to Texas. He attended Texas Christian University and received a Master's in Finance. He worked as an auditor in both large accounting firms such as Price Waterhouse Coopers and small privately owned firms. After doing this for a number of years, he returned to school studying accounting and statistics. In 1997 he became a certified public accountant. He worked for the Labor Department auditing retirement plans until his retirement in 2008.

David moved to Cookeville, Tennessee in 2010. He was a member of Cookeville First United Methodist Church where he enjoyed fellowship in the Back Sliders Class. He also enjoyed meeting and eating with the Dipsy Doodle Gang.

David was preceded in death by his parents and brother Roger Sachse.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gaynell Sachse, nephews Christian and Justin Sachse, sister in law Karen Sachse and many cousins across the country.

David's wish was to be cremated. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
