COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Curtis Junior Stiltner passed away peacefully at his home in Cookeville, Tennessee, on July 14, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on December 4, 1943, in Elkhorn, Kentucky, Curtis’s life was defined by a vibrant energy, deep care for family, and an ever-present sense of humor that left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
Curt grew up in the rolling hills of Kentucky and Virginia, a childhood he remembered through endlessly entertaining stories. He often laughed while recalling playful days with cousins, getting into mischief and learning lessons in kindness and resilience. These precious memories remained close to his heart and were frequently shared with family and friends.
Curt was a natural athlete during his school years, proudly breaking track running records-a testament to his determination and commitment even in youth. His love for activity never waned; throughout his life, he carried an infectious energy, often found cheerfully humming or whistling a joyful tune as he navigated daily life.
After his education, Curtis established a steady and industrious career, working with Westinghouse Manufacturing and Liebert Manufacturing. He built a reputation as someone with a true God-given talent for fixing or creating almost anything: electronics, computers, engines, and myriad mechanical projects routinely benefited from his capable, creative hands. Whether it was a stubborn old radio or a complex household repair, Curt was the family’s go-to problem solver.
Curt’s inventive spirit was reflected in his hobbies as well. He was passionate about building and racing RC cars and large-scale airplanes-a pursuit that brought him much enjoyment and pride. A lover of technology and fun alike, he embraced video games with childlike delight, always eager to connect across generations through shared interests.
Family was always the heartbeat of Curt’s world. Through every stage of life, he expressed unwavering devotion to those he held dear. He was a beloved brother to Barbara Johnson and Brenda Green; a cherished uncle to Kelly Johnson, Heather Johnson, Katie Popper, and Kevin Green; and a respected brother-in-law to Tom Green. Curt was preceded in death by his loving mother, Hazel Belcher, whose memory he honored throughout his life.
In his retirement, Curtis found joy in living alongside his family first in Illinois and later in Tennessee. His later years were marked by simplicity, moments of humor, and the warmth of loved ones. Curt also had a great heart for animals, treasuring the companionship of his cherished cats and dogs-creatures who benefited from his undemanding kindness and gentle affection.
A devoted family man, skilled craftsman, and storyteller, Curtis J. Stiltner’s legacy endures in the laughter he shared, the lives he brightened, and the bonds he nurtured. His memory will live on in the joyful songs he hummed, the clever jokes he told, and the love he gave unconditionally.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
