COOKEVILLE CHAPEL-Dale Winston Sullivan, a man whose life was marked by joy, dedication, and an unyielding love for people, passed away suddenly on Thursday March 26, 2026, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born on November 4, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, Dale moved to White County during his youth and was a proud graduate of White County High School.
Dale's journey was one of service and commitment. He served honorably in the United States Army during Vietnam from 1967 to 1968 as an infantryman in the 25th Infantry Division. A chapter of his life that reflected his courage and devotion to his country. Beyond his military service, Dale worked with his brother-in-law Al in Michigan doing a business, Alandale Lawncare. He also owned a business in Cookeville, TN with Mark Smith known as Dale and Mark's Lawn Mower Repair. Dale devoted himself to his community through his work as a housekeeper for Trinity Assembly (Hope Church) in Algood, where he was also cherished as a greeter for over thirty years.
Currently a member of Breakthrough Church, Dale embodied the spirit of fellowship continuously. He was full of life and energy, known for his vibrant personality, ongoing activity, and the warmth he extended to everyone he met, for he truly never met a stranger. Gardening, tending to his yard, and spending time outdoors brought him peace, joy, and a deep connection to nature. Above all, Dale loved people—his neighbors, family, and friends—always showing kindness and a genuine interest in their lives.
Dale is lovingly survived by his wife of 54 years, Chris Sullivan whose steadfast companionship was a pillar of his life. Together, they raised a family treasured by all who knew them: daughters Dawn and Jeff Waller of Cookeville and Maureen and David Jackson of Florida; his beloved grandchild, Darci Waller; and his sister, Lori and Kelly Bartman of Mississippi. His extended family of nieces and nephews also carry forward his legacy of warmth and kindness.
In mourning Dale’s passing, we also remember those who preceded him—his cherished parents, Harold Winston and Gladys Wright Sullivan; his son, Brad W. Sullivan; and sister, Judy Carpenter and her husband Marshall Sr, his grandparents, Sampson and Hallie Sullivan—each holding a special place in his heart and memory.
The community is invited to celebrate Dale’s life at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Monday March 30th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday March 31st from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on March 31st. Pastor Jason Stanford will officiate. Interment will follow at Saylors Cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions are suggested to Peachtree Learning Center, 402 North Walnut Ave., Cookeville, TN 38501.
