David N. Brady, a retired attorney and Public Defender in the Upper Cumberland area, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2024, at the age of 69. Born on June 28, 1954, in Cookeville, David's life was a testament to his dedication to his family, his career, and the law.
David's academic journey led him to earn a bachelor's degree from UT Chattanooga, followed by a distinguished graduation from UT Knoxville's Law School.
His legal acumen and commitment to serving the underrepresented culminated in his historic appointment as the first Public Defender for the 13th Judicial District of Tennessee by Governor Ned McWherter, a role in which he served with integrity and compassion for twenty five years. David served in the US Army as Captain JAG (Judge Advocate General) Officer and Veteran.
David's legacy is carried on by his beloved wife, Kay Brady of Cookeville; his sons, John P. Brady of Vietnam and David M. (Catherine) Carter of Florida; his daughter, Fiona (Brian) Hardy of Abingdon, VA; his brother, Robert V. (Gail) Brady of Cookeville; and his cherished grandchildren, Finn B. and Roland A. Hardy of Abingdon, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David M. and Vallie Featherston Brady.
David's life was marked by his wise counsel, his unwavering sense of justice, and his profound impact on those he served.
