Davis Stanton Hodges

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL-It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Davis Stanton Hodges, who died on June 17, 2025 at the age of 81. Davis was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and esteemed member of his community, not to mention a friendly and welcoming personality to everyone he came in contact with. He had a phenomenal memory and was a great story-teller.

Born in Van Buren County, Tennessee in 1944, Davis’ life was marked by service, entrepreneurship, and a profound commitment to both his biological family and church family. After bravely serving his country as an Army Veteran, Davis pursued his education at Florida State University where he graduated in the class of 1972, with a degree in education.

Davis began his professional career as a Driver's Education and Physical Education teacher at Killian Senior High School in Miami, Florida. He also enjoyed being an assistant football coach during that time period. In 1977, Davis and his wife Marcia returned to Tallahassee, Florida and embarked on a new chapter as an entrepreneur as he established Davis Carpet Care, a successful small business that he nurtured for over two decades.

Upon selling Davis Carpet Care in 2000, Davis and Marcia moved to Cookeville, Tennessee, as this had been a dream of his for many years. After moving, Davis’ industrious spirit continued as alongside his son, Carl, he co-founded two additional small businesses: Hodges Properties and Carl's Carpet Cleaning.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Davis was deeply involved in community service. He was an active and dedicated member of the Rotary Club in both Tallahassee and Cookeville and exemplified the organization's motto of "Service Above Self." He was also an active member of Collegeside Church of Christ for 22 years, where he served as a deacon for a few years. Davis’ faith in the Lord brought him immense joy and peace as a young man and in his old age.

Davis was preceded in death by his parents, Arzie and Lucille Hodges. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Marcia Hodges. Together they shared the privilege of raising two devoted sons: Doug Hodges (wife Rebekah) and Carl Hodges (wife Meghan), who will each carry on his legacy of faith, integrity and hard work. He is also survived by his brother Howard Hodges (wife Heather) and was a doting grandfather to his five cherished grandchildren: Avery, Owen, Elliot, Gabriel, and Ethan.

A funeral service to honor Davis will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday June 21st. at Collegeside Church of Christ Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 AM. Graveside services and interment will be 3:00PM Saturday at Hodges Family Cemetery in Van Buren County. TN.
