Dean Ham

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Jessie Emodean Ham, fondly known as Dean to her family and friends, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Sunday May 24, 2026, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born on October 12, 1938, in Overton County, Tennessee, Dean was known for her sweet nature, ever-present smile, and quick humor that endeared her to all who knew her.

Dean dedicated herself to both family and her career. She formerly worked at the McMurry-Roberson Department Store in Cookeville and found joy in her role as a bridal consultant, where her warmth and attentiveness left a lasting impact on many brides-to-be. Her talents extended beyond her professional life; she was a wonderful cook and had the delightful ability to bring laughter and light to family gatherings and friends.

Dean took great pride in her faith and was a devoted attendee of Midway Baptist Church and other local Baptist churches, cherishing her spiritual community until her health began to decline. Her love for her family was evident in every aspect of her life and she was cherished by her nieces and nephews: Michael Adkins (Jen), Jayne Neville (Vincent), Paul "Dewayne" Adkins (Joy), Aaron Adkins, Phil Smith (Debbie), and Randy Smith (Dorothy), along with many great nieces and nephews who hold her memory dear. She is survived by stepson James W (Carol) Ham, grandchildren Adam (Chrissy) Ham, Brittney (Chris) Ham-Wyrick, Daniel (Brandy Fain) Ham, and Cody (Misty) Ham.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Frank Adkins and Mildred Edith Bilbrey Adkins; her husband, James Ham; sisters, Katherine Haynes and Mary Freeman; and brother, Aaron "Tommy" Adkins. Though they have passed before her, their spirits live on in the hearts of those she loved.

A funeral service to honor Dean will begin at 1 p.m. Friday May 29 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Phil Smith and Paul Adkins will officiate. Visitation for friends and family will be Friday from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Dean will be laid to rest at Algood City Cemetery.

Dean's presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever be treasured by those who were fortunate to know her.
