BAXTER CHAPEL-Derrick Lee Bush, born on October 13, 1979, in Cookeville, TN, passed away at his home in Baxter, TN, on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love for his family and a lifelong dedication to his community.
Derrick was a proud graduate of Upperman High School, Class of 1997, where he excelled in athletics, participating in football, baseball, and golf. He qualified his senior year of high school for state in golf. His high school team made final four in football and sub-state in baseball. After completing his education, he devoted 24 years in the postal service and was currently serving as postmaster at the Red Boiling Springs Post Office. Derrick’s commitment to his work reflected his deep sense of responsibility and care for the people around him.
In his personal life, Derrick found great joy in various hobbies and interests. He cherished spending time with his wife, Amanda Jackson Bush, and their three sons, Jaxson, Kameron, and Hutson, who reside in Bloomington Springs, TN. His passion for sports extended beyond just his childhood days; he actively supported his sons in all their sporting activities. Derrick also enjoyed golf, farming, and spending time at the lake, along with snowboarding and traveling. He had a special way of bringing family and friends together and valued those connections deeply. He was always “the life of the party”.
Derrick’s proudest accomplishments included being part of the Upperman High School football chain gang and coaching numerous youth sports teams in Baxter. His involvement in the community didn’t stop there; he was a dedicated member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church, where he shared his faith and values with those around him.
He is survived by his beloved wife and high school sweetheart married 22 years, Amanda Jackson Bush, his three sons, Jaxson, Kameron, and Hutson Bush, his parents, Danny and Arlene Thomas Bush, and his brothers, David "Doc" (Tammy) Bush and Dustin "Buck" Bush, all of Bloomington Springs. Additional family includes his father and mother-in-law, Steve and Sherry Jackson, his grandfather-in-law, JB Davis, as well as cherished nieces and nephews: Brett (Ashley) Bush, Cole (Reagan) Bush, Mackenzy, Talan, Lily, Braydan, Kaydan, and Christian Jackson. He also leaves behind a great niece and nephew, Scotland Bush and Zayden Sherrell, a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins, with a special mention of his cousin, Chris McCaleb. Moreover, Derrick formed lasting bonds with special friends, including Seth Hudson, Matt Davidson, Scotty Dyer, Rod Garrett, Brian Chambers and Stan Davis.
Derrick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lehman and Norma Bush, Marion and Mable Thomas, and his grandmother-in-law, Sue Davis.
A Celebration of Life in Derrick's honor will take place on Friday, June 20, 2025, beginning at 5:00 PM at the home of his parents Danny and Arlene Bush, located at 1483 Bloomington Rd., Baxter, TN 38544. Bro. Josh Sherman will officiate. Please wear casual attire for food and fellowship.

Derrick Lee Bush will be remembered for his boundless love for his family and friends, his dedication to his profession, and his positive impact on those fortunate enough to know him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of many.
