Donald Vincent Hynes, 86 of Cookeville died suddenly at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, Saturday, September 30, 2023. He was a beloved life partner, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. Donald was born on April 24, 1937 in Union Township, New Jersey to the late Frank and Edith Hynes.
To many, he was known as Uncle Donny or Uncle Sonny. He was known for his loving, thoughtful and helpful ways for his family, friends or anyone who needed his help all through his 86 years.
He took great pride in serving his country as a member of the United States Navy from 1955 to 1961. He served on various ships including submarines and aircraft carriers.
After serving his country, he enjoyed raising his family coaching soccer, softball and football, doing home improvements and landscaping. He worked for Federal Plastics in New Jersey for 24 years before retiring to Orlando, Florida for 15 years. In Orlando, Florida he worked for Sea World where he truly enjoyed meeting so many people and working close to the Clydesdale horses.
Donald is survived by his life partner, Julie Lappine for over 28 years. He has one son Ryan Hynes and grandchildren Abby, Logan and Brady all of New Jersey and brother Michael Bender of New Jersey. His nieces and nephews are as follows, Tim (Janice) Terry of Cookeville, Fred (Alma) Fellner, Kathy (Kenny) Vogler, Lorene(Bob) Dykes, Donald Paul (Patty) Fellner, Eddie Fellner and Kenny and Ricky Fellner (deceased). Sean (Nancy) Kernan, Kevin and Gary Kernan, Gwen Anderson, Bo (Angela) Price (deceased). He also has many great and great great nieces and nephews and many friends.
His legacy is one of love for his life partner, family and friends and will be deeply missed by all that knew him and loved him.
Memorial services for Donald will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday October 21 at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. His family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
