Doris "Dot" Evelyn Stewart

BAXTER CHAPEL-Doris "Dot" Evelyn Stewart, age 92 of Baxter, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 7, 2026.

Born on September 10, 1933, in Putnam County, TN, Dot was the daughter of Thurman and Florence Winfree McHood, both of whom preceded her in death. Dot lived a long and meaningful life, touching the hearts of all those around her with her warmth, kindness, and enduring strength.

She was a 1953 graduate of Baxter Seminary. She was a member of Baxter First Baptist Church and in her later years attended Mountain View Baptist Church. She was a retired factory worker with Baxter Shirt Factory.

She is remembered by her loving daughter, Amy (Michael) Fox of Baxter, and her granddaughter, Samantha Fox; step-sons, Earl (Pam) Stewart and Robert (Teresa) Stewart of Baxter; and several step-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Albert Stewart of Indiana, and her sister-in-law and special friend, Pat (Morgan) Stewart and sister-in-law, Jane Boles of Cookeville, close friends, Linda Harville and Etta Mott.

In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her husbands, Othel Hill, and Glen Stewart; her daughter, Jennifer Beth Stewart, her sister, Virginia McHood; brothers, T.J. McHood, Leonard McHood, and Frank McHood; as well as her step-son, Danny Stewart.

Visitation will be held at Baxter Chapel (532 4th Ave South, Baxter, TN) on Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again Monday, August 10, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Baxter Chapel immediately followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM, also at Baxter Chapel. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. Bro. Greg Wright will officiate.

Doris "Dot" Evelyn Stewart’s life was a testament to the power of love, family, and friendship. Those who survive her will carry forward her spirit of kindness and her steadfast commitment to the people she loved. Her memory will remain a guiding light in the lives of all who were fortunate to know her.
