COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Dorothy Lois Pippin, age 82 of Cookeville, passed away on Thursday morning July 10, 2025, at Signature Health Care in Cookeville. Born on October 26, 1942, in Jackson County, Tennessee, Dorothy lived a life filled with dedication to her community and love for her family and friends.

Dorothy was a true girl of the 1950s, who cherished not only her family but also the iconic music of the era, especially Elvis. Family traditions were very important to her; Sunday dinners were a cherished routine that reflected her love for cooking, particularly her signature dish of turkey and dressing. From her own childhood, she carried the joy of family meals into her life as an adult, ultimately providing the same warmth for her own children and grandchildren.

A proud and independent single mother, Dorothy skillfully balanced her career and family life, earning her place as a role model for many. For an impressive 52 years, Dorothy devoted her career to LBJ & C Head Start in Cookeville, where she ultimately retired as director. Her tireless passion for serving preschool children and their families made a lasting impact on countless lives in the community. She was a pillar of support and encouragement, nurturing the next generation with kindness and understanding.

Dorothy's personality radiated warmth and devotion. She was family-oriented, taking immense joy in the time spent with her grandchildren, Charles Miller V and Thomas Miller. Her home was often filled with the aromas of her delicious cooking, and she cherished quiet moments spent with a good book in hand. As a member of the Church of Christ, her faith guided her through life and brought her comfort and strength.

She leaves behind her loving son, Timmy Pippin (Nancy Pointer); her devoted daughter, Brenda Miller (Charles IV); and her cherished grandchildren, Charles Miller V and Thomas Miller. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Lee Thomas and Zora Meadows Thomas, and her infant sister, Vickie Thomas.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Dorothy's life will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday July 12 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Mike Atwood will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Dorothy will be laid to rest at John Young Cemetery.
