COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Earl Cummings, a cherished member of the community and a devoted family man, passed away peacefully at his home in Algood, Tennessee, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the age of 91.
Born on April 23, 1934, in Albany, Kentucky, Earl lived a life marked by hard work and dedication and love for his family. Earl was a proud retired auto worker with Chrysler Motors. He was a committed member of the United Auto Workers (UAW), and had many lifelong friends he met through work. His work ethic extended beyond the workplace as he was always working on something and was a perfectionist at everything he did.
Also, Earl loved the Lord and was also an active member of Bangham Heights Baptist Church. An avid gardener, Earl spent his last day tending to his vegetables. He also enjoyed fishing and was known for his enthusiasm as a card player and won several trophies in tournaments. Earl loved watching baseball and traveled across the country to watch games at different stadiums.
Earl leaves behind his beloved wife, Vergie Savage Cummings, of Algood. He is survived by his son, Rick Cummings (Meehee) of Kokomo, Indiana, and his daughter, Vicky Brummitt (Chad) of Rickman. He also leaves a brother, Edward Cummings of Byrdstown, and sister, Mary Rhule of Byrdstown. Earl was a proud grandfather to Madeleine Parks (Preston) of Cookeville, Grace Brummitt of Lancaster, Kentucky, Jason Cummings (Colleen) of Indiana, and Jeffrey Cummings (Christina) of Texas. He was extremely proud of his great grandchildren, Charlotte, Deacon, Thomaz, Dax, Cydra, Destiny, Reagan, and Anna, as well as several great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Charlie Cummings and Mattie Cross Cummings, his brothers Ernest, Grady, and Hebert Cummings, and two sisters Lucille Cole and Margaret Byrd.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 1 PM in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Bro. Delmer Savage officiating.Interment will follow at Algood City Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
Earl Cummings will be remembered for his humor, industrious spirit, and the love he shared with those around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
