COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Eddie Morgan Thompson, born on August 9, 1941, in Baxter, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, at his residence in Cookeville, Tennessee. He was a cherished member of the community and will be remembered for his contributions both as a businessman and as a family man.
Eddie had a dedicated career managing a successful welding business, where his craftsmanship and leadership were widely appreciated. His commitment to excellence extended beyond his professional life; he served his community as a Putnam County commissioner for ten years and was a long-time member of the Putnam County Fair Board. His legacy of service will be felt for years to come.
Eddie's strong sense of duty was evident during his six years of service in the US National Guard, where he exemplified the values of integrity and honor. His commitment to his community and country reflected the principles he lived by throughout his life.
A long-time member of Cookeville First Baptist Church, Eddie's faith was an integral part of his identity. He shared his love of the church and its community with family and friends, providing a guiding light and a source of support for many.
In addition to his professional and civic accomplishments, Eddie enjoyed various hobbies that brought him joy. He had a passion for drag racing, a dedication to maintaining his yard with a lawn mower, and was a proud supporter of the University of Tennessee Volunteers. Most importantly, he cherished his role as a grandfather, proudly celebrating every achievement of his granddaughter, Morgan Abston.
Eddie is survived by his loving daughter, Kim Abston, and his granddaughter, Morgan Abston. He also leaves behind several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews who will carry fond memories of him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Albert Cordell and Elise Morgan Thompson; his wife, Linda Thompson; his son-in-law, Jerry Dale Abston; and his brothers, Tommy and Albert Thompson, along with a sister-in-law and brother-in-law. Eddie leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment, one that will continue in the hearts of those who knew him.
Funeral Services for Mr. Thompson will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, February 18, 2026 from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Stone and Morgan Abston officiating.
Interment with Military Honors will follow at Cookeville City Cemetery with Matt McClain, Kevin Thompson, Kyle Thompson, Jamie Spears, Paul "Dink" Hargrove and Jeff London.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his Hardees friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Eddie Morgan Thompson's life was a testament to dedication, service, and love. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
