Ella Loftis

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Ella Newberry Loftis, loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2026 at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee.

Born on June 1, 1934 in Putnam County Tennessee she devoted her life to her faith, family, and friends. She was a graduate of Algood High School.

Ella, was a long-time member of Smyrna Church of Christ where she faithfully worshipped and served for many years.

Ella is survived by her son Mike (Kim) Loftis, and daughters, Debbie (Ricky) Banks, Margo (Jeff) Johnson, and Mary (Kevin) Wooten; brother Frank (Cheryl) Newberry Jr.; sisters-in-law Sue Loftis and Mary F. Loftis, and brother-in-law Robert Loftis, as well as her grandchildren Justin Banks, Joey Banks, Matt Johnson, Ben Johnson, Wes Johnson, Tyler Loftis, Whitney Keener, Zach Wooten, and Jenna Lee. Ella’s sixteen great-grandchildren brought her lots of love and joy.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of seventy-two years, Harold T. Loftis; her parents Frank Newberry Sr. and Irene Newberry; sister Ovella Loftis; sisters-in-law Maxine Loftis and Patsy Loftis, and brothers-in-law Taylor, Ralph, and William P. Loftis.

Funeral services will be held Monday May 11, 2026 at 3:00 pm in the Cookeville chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Smyrna Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 pm until service time at the funeral home.

Her beloved grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
