DYER CHAPEL-Fannie Mae Harris, a cherished resident of Cookeville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024 at the age of 92. Born on December 28, 1931, in Overton County, TN, she lived a life filled with love, dedication, and faith.
Early in her career, Fannie Mae worked as a machine operator at the Nicholson File Company. However, her most notable and beloved role was at the Algood School, where she spent many years as a baker, bringing joy and nourishment to countless students and staff. Her culinary skills extended beyond her professional life; Fannie Mae was known for her love of cooking, often sharing her delicious creations with family and friends. She was also an avid quilter, another testament to her creativity and skill. She loved quilting and participating in the quilt group at Algood Senior Citizens.
Fannie Mae was not only a devoted baker but also a faithful member of the Cookeville Free Will Baptist Church. She shared her love of the Lord through her unwavering commitment to her church family, where she enjoyed working in the kitchen, contributing to the warmth and fellowship that characterized the congregation.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elanzo and Sarah Ray Brown, and Myrtle Eldridge Brown who raised her from the age of 2; as well as her siblings Junior Brown, Melvin Brown, Billy Joe Brown, Ernest Brown, and Gary Brown.
Fannie Mae leaves behind her husband of nearly 74 years, Albert Harris, who brought immense joy to her life. She is also survived by her sons, Dr. Roy (Amy) Harris of Mt. Juliet and Rick (Ann) Harris of Murrells Inlet, SC. Her legacy continues through her beloved brothers, Doug, Danny, and Donald Brown, and her cherished sisters, Joyce Brown, Janice Burk, and Carol Dunn. Fannie Mae's family also includes her grandchildren, Melissa Wilhoite, Reverend Aaron Harris, Christopher Harris, D.B.A., and Andrew Harris, MD, along with her great-grandchildren, Marissa Wilhoite, Mason Wilhoite, Claire Harris, Lauren Harris, Rachel Harris, Ruby Harris, Audrey Harris, Gideon Harris, Caroline Harris, Chloe Harris, Rhett Harris, and Remington Harris.
Fannie Mae Harris will be remembered for her warm spirit, her generosity, and her profound love for her family and faith. Her life was a true reflection of kindness and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to know her.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 30th from the Dyer Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Homes with Dr. Roy Harris and Pastor Seth Price officiating.
Interment will follow at Harris Chapel Cemetery in Overton County.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Christopher, Dr. Andrew, Gideon and Rev. Aaron Harris, Tim and Mason Wilhoite.
The family will receive friends at the Dyer Chapel on Friday from 5-8pm, and again on Saturday from 10am until time of service.
