COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - It is with great sadness that the family of Francis “Fran” D’Ambrosio announce her recent passing on Thursday February 26, 2026. After a brief illness, she passed peacefully in the hospital with family by her side.
She was born Francis G. Dailey in Widen, WV on January 27, 1940 and grew up in Fenwick, WV. Francis attended Richwood High School, meeting the love of her life, James, who she would later marry in 1959. She was a Thespian/Actress, Pep Club/Majorette and involved in Student Government while attending RHS. Francis graduated in 1957 and was named Miss Lumberjack!
She is survived by her children, Joseph D’Ambrosio (wife-Laurie), Stephen D’Ambrosio, and Jacqueline Slater (husband-Dean); as well as sister Doris Williams and brother William Dailey, Jr. (wife-Melody). Francis was also blessed with grandchildren - Ashley, Sydney, Casey, Eric and Jennifer. She was preceded in death by her husband, James D’Ambrosio, her parents, William Dailey, Sr. and Ruby Dailey, and her sister, Judy Spencer.
Francis lived a full life as a beloved mother, supportive wife, and inspirational friend to many. She spent most of her career employed by Sears Roebuck starting at the department store at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, IL then later working at the Sears Headquarters in Chicago, IL and Hoffman Estates, IL as a VP Executive Assistant. After retirement, her and James sold the Illinois home and spent time between their two homes in Richwood, WV and Largo, FL. She enjoyed travelling with James and spending time with family and friends.
Anyone that was blessed to have met Francis will tell you she was a bright ray of sunshine! She lit up a room and her smile was contagious. Her husband, James, was a WVU alumni and they both lived and breathed Mountaineers! She loved watching sports, especially college football and basketball. She could talk sports with the best of them! Francis also loved gardening, planting flowers, crafting, painting, golfing, and being supportive of her family and community.
A Memorial Service for Francis will be held at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home in Richwood, WV on Saturday, March 28, 2026 with a Remembrance Gathering to follow. Francis’ favorite color to wear was PINK! We encourage everyone who attends to wear pink or if you prefer, West Virginia University Mountaineer attire is always encouraged!
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Francis D’Ambrosio using the following link: Alzheimer's Association Donate.
