With a remarkable career spanning over six decades, Graham served as a professor at Tennessee Tech University, beginning in 1963. During his tenure, he taught literature and composition, later focusing on folklore and serving as the forensics director for the Speech and Debate Team. His contributions to academia were significant, shaped by his own extensive education that included graduating from Castle Heights School in Lebanon, TN, earning both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree from Vanderbilt University, and obtaining a Doctorate from Indiana University.
Beyond his academic pursuits, Graham was a man of many passions. He enjoyed bird watching and had a deep appreciation for folk music, often performing alongside his wife, Bettye, at various folk festivals where family and music intertwined. His talent extended to writing poetry and engaging in discussions about the works of Mark Twain. As a storyteller, Graham delighted in recanting his adventures, notably walking parts of the Appalachian Trail, a testament to his vibrant spirit and zest for life. An enthusiast of the legendary Bigfoot, he shared this interest with many as part of his captivating narratives.
Dr. Kash was a proud member of the Cookeville Toastmasters Club, where he was a charter member and remained actively involved until his passing. His faith also played an important role in his life as a member of the Cookeville First United Methodist Church.
He leaves behind his daughters, Heather Batchelor and her husband Mike of Madison, AL, and Holly Schauer and her husband Aaron of Portland, OR. Graham was lovingly remembered by his four grandsons, Brett, Blake, Matthew, and David.
Graham is preceded in death by his dedicated wife, Bettye Ruth Kash; his brother, Lewis Kash; and his parents, Roscoe Conkling and Ladye Ruth Stephens Kash.
