Guy passed away on Monday July 27, 2026, at Signature Healthcare of Putnam County. He was born on August 11, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Donald and Jacqueline Goolsby.
Guy’s early years were shaped in Michigan, where he attended Harper Woods High School. As a proud member of the class of 1965, he distinguished himself as an athlete on the swim team. He continued his studies at Tennessee Tech, earning a bachelor's degree in history. While there, Guy embraced his love of swimming as part of the swim club, demonstrating his passion for both academics and athletics.
Professionally, Guy built a successful career as an insurance adjuster, working for respected firms such as Prudential and Farm Bureau; and also worked at Dura Automotive.
Outside his professional life, Guy found fulfillment in his many personal interests and through the close bonds he maintained with his family and community. He was an enthusiastic coach of women’s softball and youth baseball, sharing not only his knowledge of sports but also his values of hard work and fair play with younger generations. Guy was a steadfast fan of the Tennessee Volunteers, the Detroit Tigers, and the Chicago Cubs, often sharing the excitement of the game with friends and family.
Guy enjoyed a rich variety of hobbies. He was an avid pool player, delighted in attending car shows, and loved the thrill of yard sales. Perhaps above all, he cherished the time spent watching his grandchildren participate in their own athletic events, supporting them with pride and affection from the sidelines.
Guy is survived by a loving family who will continue to honor his legacy: his daughters, Lori (Jeff) Kauppi and Emily (Justin) Bennett; his son, Andrew (Allison) Goolsby; and his grandchildren, Preston Davidson, Paige Kauppi, Dylan Goolsby, Drew Goolsby, Grayson Bennett, and Sutton Bennett; his sisters, Tracey Bell and Jill Lutzeier; his brother, Todd Goolsby. He is also survived by special friends, Chuck Nunally and Larry Goolsby; and by all of his pool tournament friends
Andrew Goolsby, Dylan Goolsby, Drew Goolsby, Justin Bennett, Grayson Bennett, Sutton Bennett, Jeff Kauppi and Preston Davidson will serve as pallbearers.
