BAXTER CHAPEL-Harlan Joseph Maxwell, a cherished member of the Baxter community, passed away peacefully at his home in Baxter, TN on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on March 13, 1950, in Cookeville, TN, Harlan lived a life rich in devotion to his family and community.

Harlan was known for his unwavering commitment to his work as the Inventory Control Coordinator at Porelon, where he dedicated an impressive 38 years of his life. His strong work ethic and compassionate nature made a lasting impact on those with whom he worked.

An alumnus of Upperman High School, class of 1968, Harlan embraced life with a spirit of adventure and enjoyment. He had passions that extended beyond his professional endeavors, including hunting, riding motorcycles, farming, and riding horses. These hobbies reflected his love for nature and the outdoors, and he shared many memorable moments with family and friends through these pursuits.

Harlan is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Donita Robinson Maxwell, who stood by his side throughout their journey together. His legacy continues through his daughter, Jamie (Jason) Moss, and his beloved grandchildren: Colton (Bailey) Elrod, Emily (Caden) Nash, and Kori Bean. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Lincoln Bean and Sawyer Bean. Family was of utmost importance to Harlan, and he took great joy in the time spent with his family, fostering deep connections that will be treasured for generations to come.

He is also survived by his brother, Raymond (Ernestine) Maxwell, and several nieces and nephews, including Jimmy (Penny) Maxwell, Paula (Mark) Randolph, Hillary (Jeff) Neal, Jesse Robinson, and Josh Robinson. Harlan’s circle of friends included special friend, Steve Nash, who shared many memorable moments in their time together.

Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, Daly James and Ruby Jewell Holman Maxwell, who provided him with a strong foundation for his life.

Visitation will be held at Baxter Chapel  of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home, 532 4th Ave. South, Baxter, TN on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The  funeral service will be Sunday, January 18, 2026, starting at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Maxwell Cemetery South. Bro. Garlan Robinson and Bro. Jeff Neal will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Jason Moss, Colton Elrod, Jimmy Maxwell, Caden Nash, Steve Nash and Jacob Key.

Harlan Joseph Maxwell will be remembered for his love of family, his contributions to the community, and his zest for life. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
