Funeral services for Henry W. Godwin, age 78, of the Shaw Branch Community of Putnam County, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, January 20 at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Rodgers officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Godwin Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 - 8 p.m. and again Friday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Godwin passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2017 at his home. He was born April 4, 1938 in Henton, IL to the late Henry Orville and Edna Mae Raymond Godwin. Mr. Godwin was a member of Double Springs Community Church and U.S. Army veteran. He was retired owner of Godwin Excavation and fondly remembered for his work ethic, trustworthiness, and dependability. He was an avid raccoon hunter and accomplished dog trainer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven Wayne Godwin; two brothers, Leroy and Leon Godwin; and sister, Lois Cook. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dixie Freeman Godwin, who he married September 2, 1961 in Henton, IL; son, Jonathon W. Godwin of Baxter; daughter, Patti Jo Godwin of Jackson County, TN; three sisters, Ilena Steeby, Doris Cox, and Linda Sarver, all of Pana, IL; five grandchildren, Jon (Kayla) Godwin of Clarkrange, Jordan Godwin of Cookeville, Zach Strickland of Chattanooga, Christina (Robert) Hutchinson, and Chelsey Strickland all of Jackson County; and 11 great-grandchildren. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (931)858-2134.
