HORNER CHAPEL - Mr. Henry Clay Phillips passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the Standing Stone Nursing Home at the age of 92. Born on September 8, 1932, in Monterey, Tennessee, Henry was known for his giving nature and down-to-earth personality. His warmth and sociability shone through in all his interactions, earning him a reputation as a man who would give the shirt off his back to help others.
Henry had a strong work ethic throughout his life, working at the Lake County Road Department, Clermont Building Supplies and at Libby's Orange Grove Service while living in Florida. He also worked as a carpenter for Clayton Horst when he moved back to Monterey. His commitment to his jobs reflected his hard working spirit, one that endeared him to colleagues and clients alike.
Outside of work, Henry was a passionate railroad enthusiast, a hobby that allowed him to connect with others while indulging his fascination with trains. He loved to share stories and engage in conversations, always eager to meet new people and learn from their experiences.
Henry is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Carl) Caples and Cindy (Denny) Shiver, and his son, Andy Phillips. He is also survived by his brother, Keith (Kathy) Phillips, sisters, Bonzane and Evelyn, and his cherished grandchildren: Kelly Newton, Carl Caples, Jr., Grant and Cassie Stallings, Miranda Strong, and Charrissa Daunais; and by eight great grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Ruth Masters Phillips; his wife, Caroline Marie Weideman Phillips; his son, Larry Phillips; and by his sisters, Jean Barrie, Billie Reinke, Dorothy Phillips, Bonzane and Evelyn.
Interment will be held at Mount Zion Cemetery in Webster, Florida.
