COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Jackie Sue Vandercook, known affectionately as Jackie by her loved ones, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2024, at Charter Senior Living of Cookeville. Born on September 9, 1935, in Taylor, Michigan, Jackie's life was marked by her adventurous spirit and unwavering kindness.
Jackie's early years in Michigan were filled with the warmth of family and the values instilled by her parents, Leo and Helen Otinio Tebbe. She pursued a career in nursing with a passion for helping others, a vocation that she dedicated herself to until her retirement. Her work as a registered nurse not only showcased her professional abilities but also her innate compassion and empathy for those in her care.
In her personal life, Jackie's heart was ever-expanding. She was a loving wife to her husband of 67 years, David Vandercook, and together they embarked on countless adventures, traveling extensively across the globe and throughout the United States. Their shared experiences created a tapestry of memories that would become the backdrop of stories told and retold within the family.
Jackie's legacy is carried on by her devoted husband, David, and their children, Jennice Ozment (Rick), Gene Vandercook (Shawna), and Patty Johnson (Chris). She was a cherished grandmother to David Ozment, Daniel Ozment, Brandy Raney, Paige Goga, Derek Debus, Kris Vandercook, and Michaela Jesko, and a proud great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren. Each of them will remember Jackie for her boundless love and the moments of joy she brought into their lives.
Her family tree bears the marks of loss, as she was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Lucy Debus, and her sister Colene Bowman. Yet, even in grief, the family finds comfort in knowing that Jackie's spirit remains a guiding light in their lives.
Jackie's interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. She was a family-oriented soul who found her greatest pleasure in the company of her loved ones. Her adventurous nature was not just evident in her travels but also in her approach to life, always ready to explore new horizons and embrace the beauty of the world around her.
