James, aged 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 5, 2026 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born on May 1, 1932, to James Willis Ramsey, Sr and Sally Winningham Ramsey, James’s life became a rich tapestry woven with steadfast love for family and music, an abiding faith, and a joyful spirit that touched all who knew him.

James graduated from Livingston Academy in 1951, beginning a journey of hard work and service. He answered the call to serve his country as a member of the United States Army. After military service, James embarked on a long and fulfilling career as an Operating Engineer for the Tennessee Valley Authority, where he took pride in his work and his impact on the community. Retirement never meant slowing down for James; instead, he brought the same diligence and skill to Moore and Ramsey Installation, showing his tireless dedication and passion for a job well done.

A man of deep faith, James was not only a member but also served as an Elder at Whitson Chapel Church of Christ. James’s home was always filled with the sweet strains of bluegrass music, a testament to his lifelong love for melody and song. Music was ever-present in his house, providing a joyful backdrop to countless family gatherings and simple, peaceful afternoons. He was never happier than when sharing laughter around a table of loved ones, whether playing UNO or bingo at NHC Healthcare, or relishing the stories told and retold among family members. He found endless contentment in the simple pursuits of fishing and tending to his garden. Above all, James loved life itself—a quality that shone brightest in his exuberant celebration of every occasion with his dear family.

His legacy lives on through those who survive him: his loving daughters Becky Heiss and her husband Van, Nelda Moss and her husband Phillip, and Tammy Bohannon and her husband Darrell. James’s heart swelled with pride for his grandchildren—Joe (Heather) Heiss, Mandy (Al) Hasting, Will (Kylee) Moss , and Dana (Blake) Bennett—each of whom brought him tremendous happiness. The family continued to grow, blessing him with fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters. He is also survived by his cherished sister, Myrtle Patterson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Martha Hogue Ramsey; his sisters Leona Wheeler, Mable Bandoian, and Ina Mordeck; and by his great-grandson Dayton Moss.
