A memorial service for Mr. Delbert "J.D" Couch will be held Saturday, May 30th at 2:00 p.m. at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. His family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
J.D. Couch, a man whose generous spirit and infectious laughter touched everyone who knew him, passed away suddenly on May 18, 2026, due to heart-related issues. Born on June 13, 1952, in Hamilton, Ohio, and moved to Elkhart, Indiana when he was 10. J.D. lived a life marked by kindness, devotion to his family, and a passion for the simple joys that brought him happiness.
As a dedicated truck driver, J.D. traversed countless roads, but his true joy extended beyond his career. He loved working on lawn mowers and small engines, finding satisfaction in hands-on tasks that allowed him to create and repair. In quieter moments, he was often found playing his guitar or immersed in reading, especially drawn to the Bible and the comfort and guidance it offered. Listening to sermons on the radio was a cherished pastime, reflecting his deep faith and eagerness to share its message with others.
Those who were fortunate enough to know J.D. remember him as goofy and loud in the best possible way-always willing to lend a hand, share a joke, or offer encouragement. His generosity was boundless; he would do anything for anyone without hesitation. Above all else, J.D. counted his family as his proudest accomplishment, treasuring the quality time they spent together and the bonds they built over the years.
J.D. is lovingly survived by his devoted wife of over 20 years, Rebecca Qualls Sagar; his son, Rodney Couch; and his stepdaughter, Kelly (Willie Mackey) Troglen. Also mourning his loss are his son-in-law, Michael Ellison; mother-in-law, Lorene Qualls; brothers Elbert (Mary) Couch, Hubert Couch, Rick Couch, and Joe Couch; and his sister, Janet Mosley. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren Makayla (Marcus) Dillon, Bailee (Logan) Macaluso, Chase Couch, Casey (Chris) Lamb, Cody (Haley) Ellison, Colby Wright, Thomas Ellison, and Keelie Mackey, as well as his beloved great-grandchildren Lakelyn and Seanna Dillon, Lincoln Macaluso, and Justin and Phoebe Lamb.
He joins in eternal rest those who preceded him: his parents, Bill and Laura Eversole Couch; sister, Brenda Farris; father-in-law, Hollis Qualls; and stepdaughter, Jennifer Ellison.
