Funeral Services for Mrs. Gladys Jean Cody, age 86, were held Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Washington Avenue Baptist Church, 1621 North Washington Ave., Cookeville, TN. Visitation for family and friends was Thursday at 11:00 AM and continued until service time at the church. Interment was in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Pastor Mark Gaw officiated. Mrs. Cody passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born April 2nd, 1934 in Banner Springs, Fentress Co., TN to the late Theodore and Daisy Maxwell Hall. Jean and her late husband Noble owned and operated Cody Office Supply for over 30 years. She also served on the Tennessee Historical Commission and the Putnam County Election Commission and was a member of Tennessee Tech Faculty Women's Club, Pilot Club, and the Junior Women's Club. She also owned and operated Jean's Consignment Depot where she loved to visit with her friends, family and customers. She enjoyed sharing the good news of Jesus with them and occasionally, selling an item or two. She loved to entertain and had many gatherings through the years for Tennessee Tech, the Republican Party and children in her neighborhood for backyard Bible clubs. She loved her church and teaching Sunday School. She also served on the Washington Ave. Baptist Church building committee. She is survived by her children, Preston Cody (wife Trudy) of Cookeville, Jeanie Cody Holder of Franklin, TN, Lindsey Cody of Knoxville, and Tracy Cody (wife Audrey) also of Cookeville; four grandchildren; Austin Cody (wife Kenzie), Michael Cody (wife Jen) of Sevierville, and Samuel Cody (wife Jaime) of Algood, and Kelly Wright of Franklin; four great grandchildren, Eli, Graham and Oliver Cody and Cody Wright; three brothers, Curtis Hall (wife Mary Lou) of Banner Springs, TN, Roger Hall (wife Brenda) of Grimsley, TN and Colonel Doyle Hall of Lake Tansi, TN. She is also survived by very special friends, Peggy Evans of Cookeville and Bill Dolan of Baxter, TN. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Illene Springhart of Jamestown, TN. Pallbearers were Michael Cody, Sam Cody, Jeff Jones, Rocky Cody, Steve Hertzfeldt and Herschel Judd. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers were asked to be made to Washington Ave. Baptist Church's Missions Fund, 1621 North Washington Ave., Cookeville, TN 38501 or at www.wabconline/give.
