Jeffrey W. Abbott

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Jeffrey W. Abbott, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated member of his community, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2025, at his residence in Cookeville, Tennessee at the age of 80. Born on April 4, 1945, in White Plains, New York, Jeffrey’s journey was marked by a deep commitment to his family, career, and community.

A proud graduate of Rye High School in Rye, NY, and Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, NY. Jeffrey served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. During the Vietnam War, he was stationed in Japan and then Tyndall AFB in FL, where he worked in air traffic control, laying the groundwork for a distinguished career with the Federal Aviation Administration. He retired from the FAA after 30 years of dedicated service, with his last assignment at Tampa International Airport in Florida. Throughout his career, he gained extensive experience and traveled extensively, living in various southern states.

Jeffrey was not only dedicated to his career but also deeply involved in his community. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he embraced the principles of community and service. His passions extended beyond work and faith; he found great joy in woodworking and cherished the moments spent with his five grandchildren, Mariana, Ryan, Hailey, Benjamin, and Molly. Jeffrey's legacy of love and care for his family will continue to impact their lives deeply.

He enjoyed his various Corvettes and traveling. As a teenager, he was a member of the Masonic organization of DeMolay and was well known for his mastery of ritual. Among his proudest accomplishments was his active role in the Mason Lodge, where he served as Past Master of the Cookeville Masonic Lodge #266. He earned several accolades throughout his Masonic journey, including the prestigious "Award of Excellence" pin. Jeffrey was also a dedicated member of the Lions Club International, where he advanced to District Governor of District 12-O, passionately advocating for the "Kids Sight Program" and planting new clubs. Jeffrey received many honors, including Lion of the Decade and the Melvin Jones Award, demonstrating his commitment to service and charity.

Jeffrey is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judith Klouda Abbott; sons, Mark William (Allison) Abbott of Collierville, TN, and Daniel Joseph (Katherine) Abbott of Maple Valley, WA; sister, Patricia (James) Seacord of Hendersonville, NC; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William James and Audrey Marguerite Cox Abbott, and his brother-in-law, Charles Joseph Klouda.

Special thanks for his good friend, Keith Taylor, and Hospice of Tennessee nurses, Sarah and Madison.
