Jerry Parris

Funeral services for Jerry R. Parris, age 85 of Cookeville will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday December 20 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery.

His family will receive friends Tuesday from 11 a.m. until service time.

Jerry passed away Friday December 16, 2022.

He was born March 19, 1937 in Pickett County, TN to the late Cosby Parris and Susan Cope Parris.

Jerry was a veteran of the US Air National Guard.

He was an exceptional athlete who excelled at boxing and football. He was a member of the football team at Tennessee Tech University and later transferred to play at the University of Oklahoma.

Jerry was retired from the timber and logging business.

He is survived by his daughter, Marcie Parris Brecker of Franklin; son, Roger (Lauri) Parris of Cookeville; sisters, Clara Parris Eckel of Greenville,SC and Faye Wilson of Cookeville; brother, Buddy (Pat) Parris of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Miranda Allen, Corey (Anastasia) Parris, Caleb Parris, Lauren Brecker Fly (John), Julia Brecker, and Sydney Brecker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Sue Malone Parris, sisters, Mae Kerchner, Orella Knight, Opal White, Doris Vitale, and Della Sue Lynn; brothers, Bosie, Joe, Houston, and Charles Parris; and an infant brother, Winfield Parris.
