Jerry Phillips

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL-With deep love, we announce the passing of Jerry Lee Phillips, a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, a loving father, grandfather, and friend, who passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026.

Jerry was born on October 7, 1941, in New Albany, Indiana to Chester and Margaret Phillips. He was very loved and doted on by his two older sisters, Wanda and Delores. Jerry was blessed to live many places during his childhood years: Indiana, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Ohio, and Maryland. It was in Maryland that he met his sweetheart, Ginny. They married on August 2, 1969.

Ginny was everything to Jerry. They were truly soulmates. They spent their married life in Tennessee and together raised five children. Jerry was the greatest storyteller, loved being around people, and was usually the ringleader in all sorts of adventures. His life was filled with love and laughter.

Jerry was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He knew and loved his Savior, Jesus Christ. He lived the Gospel with a zest for life, family, and God. He faithfully served in many positions in the church, all of which brought him great joy.

He is survived by his children: Christine Phillips, Matt and Tonya Phillips, Becky and Scott Hill, Sarah and Tad Warren, Martha Haney, 14 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his eternal companion, Ginny. He spent the last 23½ years of his life missing Ginny every single day. Oh! How imagining their reunion brings us comfort and immense happiness.

Services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, September 17, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (981 S. Walnut Ave. Cookeville, TN) with interment at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery to follow. There will be a viewing prior to the service from 9:00am to 10:30am, also at the church.

After the funeral and the interment, please join us again at the church at 1:00pm for a celebration of Jerry’s life and his favorite food, chocolate. Come visit and share stories of Jerry as we celebrate 85 years well lived by this amazing man.

His family and friends will carry his memory forward through the faith, experiences, stories, and love he gave so generously.
