Jim Hammons

Funeral services for James Ray Hammons, age 78 of Cookeville, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday December 23 at Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Please practice social distancing and the use of masks are encouraged. Jim passed away Monday morning December 21, 2020 at his home. He was born May 16, 1942 in the Double Springs Community of Putnam County, TN to the late Edgar Lee and Pauline Steele Hammons. Jim formerly worked at Procter and Gamble in Long Beach, CA. After relocating to Cookeville, he worked at Genco and later Russell Stovers. He was a member of Life Church. "Pa Jim" was loved by all. He is survived by his wife Patsy Lee Hammons, whom he married December 11, 1963; four sons, David (Donna) Hammons of Overton Co, Billy (Kimberly) Hammons of McMinnville, James (Melody) Hammons of Cookeville, and Christopher Hammons of Sparta; brothers, Johnny Hammons, Billy (Deborah) Hammons, all of Cookeville, and Jerry (Diana) Hammons of Overton Co; sisters, Rosemary Brashears of Lynchburg, Faye Doppie of Washington, and Joyce Hunter of California; grandchildren, Garrett (Breanna) Hammons, Jessika (Alex) Martinez, Andrew (Brianna) Sims, Misti (Jason) Parsley, Ryan (Eugenie) Hammons, Thomas Hammons, Sara Hammons, Matthew (Jessica) Copeland, Ashley (Matthew) Baker, David (Daisy) Hammons, Ty (Anna) Hammons, Derrek Hammons, Dalton Hammons, Jerry Hammons, and Lili Garcia; and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas and David Hammons; and sister, Margaret Kennedy. Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
